How Much Does It Cost to Run a FiveM Roleplay Server?

"How much does a FiveM server cost?" has a boring answer — it depends — and a useful one: less money than people think, and far more time than they expect.

Here's a realistic breakdown of what you'll actually spend to launch and run a roleplay server.

Hosting — your only guaranteed monthly bill

A small server for a starting community typically runs in the low tens of dollars per month. As your player count, script load and map assets grow, so does the requirement — busy cities with heavy resource lists run substantially higher.

FiveM is more sensitive to single-core CPU performance than to raw core count, so a host with strong per-core clocks beats a cheap box with many slow cores. Prioritise that over headline specs.

Scripts and resources — from free to expensive fast

Plenty of quality community resources are free, and a first server can be assembled almost entirely from them. Paid scripts typically range from around ten to a hundred-plus dollars each as one-time purchases, with premium systems (advanced inventories, full job frameworks, anti-cheat) at the top end.

The trap is buying scripts to fix a problem that's actually design. Ten paid scripts don't make a server people stay on; consistent rules and good staff do.

MLOs, maps and vehicles

Custom interiors (MLOs) and vehicle packs are where budgets quietly balloon — a single high-quality custom MLO can cost as much as several scripts.

They're also the most visible differentiator for players, so spend here deliberately: one or two signature locations your city is known for beat a pile of generic ones.

Website, domain and payment fees

A domain is a few dollars a year. A website can cost nothing if you use a free tool, or hundreds if you commission one — and most servers overspend here early, before they know if the community will stick.

On the payment side, FiveM requires monetisation to run through Tebex under the Cfx Platform Agreement, and Tebex takes a cut of transactions. Factor that into your pricing before you set perk prices.

The cost everyone underestimates: time

Money is the small line item. The real spend is hours — configuring the framework, writing rules, reviewing whitelist applications, moderating disputes, and being present in your community night after night.

Owners rarely quit because hosting got expensive. They quit because they were the only one doing the work. Budget for staff, delegation and your own burnout before you budget for another script pack.

Frequently asked questions

What's the minimum to launch a FiveM RP server?

A modest monthly game server plus a domain gets a server online — the free community frameworks and resources cover the rest. Your bigger constraint is time.

Do I need a paid anti-cheat?

Not on day one. Server-side validation, sensible permissions and active staff catch most early problems. Paid anti-cheat becomes worth it once your player count makes you a target.

Can donations cover the costs?

For many established servers, yes — donations often cover hosting and scripts. But donation income follows an active community, not the other way round; don't plan the budget around revenue that doesn't exist yet.

Is a free website good enough to start?

Yes. Early on you need a real, branded place to send players — connect info, rules, store, applications. Spend on a custom build later, once you know the community is sticking.
